Make mine a Metz.

Any big plans for the weekend? This is the last weekend before school starts, and it’s tax free weekend. So we might brave the crowds and look for some pencils and paper. The ASO brass quintet is playing an outdoor concert on Sunday evening. Should be pretty toasty , probably about 97 degrees at the start. Yay Texas.

I took today off, so of course I worked harder than I would have if I had, you know, worked.

And the wife is on call this weekend, so the kids will be ganging up on me for the next two days...

Hope it’s a little cooler than 97 for the concert!

I’m meeting with a girl I’ve been seeing for a drink and dinner tonight, I have no plans the rest of the weekend. I haven’t been feeling great the past couple days, so probably at least sleeping in.

no real plans... getting the house neat und tidy tomorow..probably going for a walkabout.. and sunday me mums coming over for a visit

worst of all no drinking

i gots what i gots tonight... then i go sober till the next f1 race

thats probably the longest stretch of sobriety ive had since i was 16

*Thursday. Retail means I get to work Saturdays.

And I fly to [Brand] HQ o n Sunday for another super-group conference. I am buying myself an extra night so that I can get down there a day early and relax. After the mild panic attack I had at work this morning, I desperately need time to just vegetate. Can’t think of much better than a swanky hotel and a good book to read to relax. But hey! I’ve lost ~15 pounds due to stress and not being able to eat (and I already have serious food allergies that severely curtail eating). I can wear a full size smaller waistband on my pants.

Side note, Metz is back in production in Omaha, m ade by Infusion Brewing Company. A bit sweet and malty for me but every now and then I choose it. Great pic for a Friday though!

I had never heard of it until I saw this photo. Last week I posted a Piels truck, and that got me reading about the history of Piels beer in the NYC area. Like Metz, that beer went away and has since been resurrected.

No luck fining this one. I was thinking it could be on Harney or Harvey street, but if anything they have too many surviving pre-war buildings. I looked at a ‘ 44 street car map, but the location that seemed most likely can’t be right because of surviving 1930 building that would be visible in the image if it were there. It may not be helpf ul anyway since since the map only lists active lines.

Good luck with that. I’ve been chasing some health issues, nothing major, but I’ve decided to drastically cut back on my drinking while increasing the exercise. While I definitely feel better when I don’t drink, I really enjoy drinking. And that makes it hard. My other problem is that I have a mental condition (no really, my doctor said that I do) where I can’t have just one drink. If I have one I have six. The only way to keep from having six is to have none.

How interesting.  Back in the day beers where very localized, Omaha also had Storz that also had a resurrection for a year or so, then again went under.

huh... i have the same condition....tho i wouldnt call it a condition...i dont drink or i get good and buzzed...there is no inbetween

we just call that being a pisshead over here tho

I wish there were more local beers that didn’t make hoity toity craft beers. The world doesn’t need yet  another IPA. I’d be interested to look up Potosi beer. The only Potosi I know is a tiny town near Abilene, TX. It’s almost certainly a Native American word or tribe name.

I drink .5L cans of Carlsberg or Konig Pilsner. Five of those and I’m feeling it in the morning. But that’s seven US beers, so that’s a bit.

It’s fun looking around these places, the same appeal as playing https://geoguessr.com/ or whatever. FWIW, Omaha looks pretty nice. Gives me a Vancouver- type impression (without all the water and mountains), and fewer high-rises.
